The Park Rapids Enterprise newspaper reports that law enforcement officials claim DWI numbers were down and designated driver numbers increased during routine traffic stops surrounding this year’s WE Fest near here.
Ten DWI arrests were made out of 420 total traffic stops over the course of the festival, the State Patrol said. Out of those 420 stops, 59 drivers were designated drivers specifically there to pick up someone in need of a safe ride home, Sgt. Jesse Grabow said.
While law enforcement made contact with 420 vehicles, they only issued a total of 113 citations, Grabow said.
According to the patrol: A total of 190 people were stopped for speed-related offenses, while 67 were stopped for seat-belt offenses. Twenty-four were stopped for minor consumption of alcohol offenses. Six were stopped for drug offenses.
Six people were stopped for driving after revocation or driving after suspension of a license. Three stops were made for warrant arrests.
