According to the February 3, 2015 StarTribune, police officers arrested 65 people for DWI, before, during and after the Super Bowl. Maybe some people were disappointed at Seattle’s last-minute loss. Or maybe some fans were just celebrating New England’s victory a bit too much. In any event, the Minnesota State Patrol reports that law enforcement from across Minnesota arrested the 65 individuals from Sunday into Monday morning. The number of people arrested this year was a dramatic drop from the previous five years. Here are the previous yearly numbers:
2014 – 182 arrests;
2013 – 147 arrests;
2012 – 211 arrests;
2011 – 207 arrests;
2010 – 199 arrests.
Over the entire super bowl weekend, the Minnesota State Patrol reports that law enforcement statewide arrested 365 drivers for DWI. Hennepin County led the way with 87 DWI arrests.
Overall, the number of DWI arrests in Minnesota have continued to decrease, with last year marking the eighth straight year where arrests have declined from the previous year.
